Recipe: Meringues

Today a recipe: meringues! For those who don't know what it is: it's basically a kind of (edible) hardened foam made out of eggs and sugar. Very easy and fun to make and very yummy to eat!
I love baking stuff when I'm bored, when you're finished you'll have something to eat and you have something to do when you're bored. Keep on reading for some pictures of my creations and of course, the recipe!

What you need:

  • A bowl, preferably one made out of aluminium
  • Oven
  • Baking tray
  • Baking paper
  • Kitchen mixer
  • 4 egg whites
  • 260 grams of sugar
  • 1 sachet vanilla sugar
  • Piping bag + spatula or 2 spoons
  • Optional: food coloring
How to make meringues:

It's very easy. First preheat the oven to 100 degrees Celsuis. Beat the egg whites until you can hold the bowl upside down without the egg whites falling out, which is approximately 4-7 minutes. You can feel it's getting harder to move spoon through it.
Then slowly add the sugar to the egg whites while mixing. When the sugar is entirely dissolved throught the mixture, scoop the mixture with a spatula into your pipingbag.
If you want your meringues to be more colorful you can add a few drops of food coloring and use a spatula to scoop it through the mixure, if you use your kitchen mixer you might beat out the air, which makes the mixture foamy.
Cover your baking tray with baking paper. Squirt your mixture out of the bag onto the baking paper into whatever form you like, you can create small bowls, but you can also make the typical form; a tuft.
Don't have a pipingbag? Use a spoon to scoop an amount out of the bowl and use the other spoon to push it off the first spoon onto the baking paper. Place the baking tray with the meringues in the over for 45-60 minutes. Let them cool and they're ready to eat!

My creations:

I expected them to be white when they came out, but they turned out a little caramelish colored. Probably because the sugar caramelised in the over, but hey, they still were delicious!

Try it, I'm sure you'll love it!
